What's going on

“What we play is life.”

–Louis Armstrong

The good of it, the bad of it, the happy, the sad of it.

The joy, the pain, the sunshine, the rain.

Wherever you are this summer, enjoy every drop of the music of life.

Coming up this Friday at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach’s Summer Concert Series is one of the ‘saxiest’ jazz ensembles out there right now. Featuring the talents of smooth jazz icons Marion Meadows and Paul Taylor with the newest additon of rising young artist Vincent Ingala, the trio Sax and the City is captivating fans all over the country.

Founding members of Sax and the City, Marion and Paul, recently talked with No Stress Express host Deborah Howell about taking the stage at this Friday’s Summer Concert Series and the rave responses of the trio’s live shows from fans.

“We just got an incredible show, it’s just off the hook,” said Marion. “It’s nice to know that what we do continues to get people excited and more importantly gets us excited as well.”

Calling it the “tour of all tours,” Marion says the trio has raised the bar for current shows, which features a balanced mix of styles with him on soprano sax, Vincent on tenor and Paul on alto. The trio’s backing band is also driven by outstanding musicians Joe McBride and Will Brock on vocals and keyboards, “Chocolate” Chip Shearin on bass and Jabari on drums.

Because the three musicians are based out of different locations, fans may be wondering, where do they find time to get together and practice for their shows?

“We’re still wondering that ourselves,” laughed Paul. “Usually we find time before each show. We’ll just rent one of the banquet rooms…and we’ll just go over the show that day. We work it out so we can put on a great show for you guys.”

Even if you’ve seen Sax and the City in the past, fans don’t want to miss this charismatic new lineup this Friday night at the Hyatt Newport. For tickets and show details, visit hyattconcerts.com.
